Unit 1: The Purposeful Paragraph
Writing gives purpose and voice to our thinking.
In this unit we will explore the questions: What is a paragraph? (factual), What is a writing voice? (conceptual), Can writing deepen or clarify our thinking? and Can the paragraph form focus our thinking? (debatable).

Close Reading (& listening)
Throughout the year we will do close reading and close listening activities. this requires you to read or listen to a piece, take notes while you are reading or listening, and then write a page-one response to what you just read and listened to based on a question I give you or a question you would like to explore. Below are the different resources we will use to do this.

To write an effective argument, you need to understand your audience.
In this unit we will explore the questions: What is an argument? (factual), How do you write a strong argument? (conceptual), Can writing change people's minds? (debatable).
