Love to work with clay? In this class you will design a variety of fun projects using a multitude of clay techniques: pinch and coil building, slab construction, and a variety of glazing techniques. Basic clay concepts, terminology, history of clay, and ceramic design will be covered. This is a hand building class, however, students may get an initial experience on the pottery wheel as well. Successful completion of this class gives students a better understanding of the ceramic process and techniques, leading to a more advanced study of ceramics in future course work. 

Art & Design Studio will be a hands-on experience in which students will put art theory into practice. Students will explore the creation of art through many different mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, digital media and design, and printmaking. Through this experience, students will build a digital portfolio website of their artwork.

Students will explore art in its many dimensions through studio projects, historical inquiry, art criticism, and aesthetics. During this time, they will develop creative problem-solving skills and self-evaluation, while building a deeper understanding of art processes, techniques, and visual culture. All students will create a sketchbook of their work throughout the class, as well as many final studio projects.

Introduction to Graphic Design will include an introductory exploration of Photoshop and Illustrator and other computer programs and apps used to manipulate images. You will create original works using digital images while solving visual problems that incorporate the elements and principles of design, and evaluate the solution. Students will learn how graphic design and media arts plays a role in our society (advertising, commercials, product design, logos, etc.) and about the many careers available through design. All students will build a digital website portfolio of their work.
