Love to work with clay? In this class you will design a variety of fun projects using a multitude of clay techniques: pinch and coil building, slab construction, and a variety of glazing techniques. Basic clay concepts, terminology, history of clay, and ceramic design will be covered. This is a hand building class, however, students may get an initial experience on the pottery wheel as well. Successful completion of this class gives students a better understanding of the ceramic process and techniques, leading to a more advanced study of ceramics in future course work.

The foundation of the visual arts curriculum has a strong emphasis on the elements and principles of art and design. This class is designed as a bridge between the elementary and the high school experience providing students with challenging, relevant, and fun lessons. Students will explore art in its many dimensions through studio projects, historical inquiry, art criticism, and aesthetics. During this time, they will develop creative problem-solving skills and self-evaluation, while building a deeper understanding of art processes, techniques, and visual culture. All students will create a sketchbook of their work throughout the class, as well as many final studio projects.
